The environmental challenges surrounding us demand the best efforts of teams of people with diverse skills and perspectives. This course empowers participants with integrative leadership skills for making meaningful progress on these tough problems. This experience is not for spectators! Over the course of the program, leadership practices will be introduced and then practiced and applied by participants in an experiential, learning lab format. Participants will sharpen their abilities to address common challenges in leading diverse groups to work on wicked environmental problems, practice conflict management and polarity mapping tools for engaging in thorny environmental dilemmas, learn from examples of successful integrative leadership; practice design thinking on an integrative leadership problem, and build networks among participants with differing perspectives and skills.
The Boreas Leadership Program is offered by the UMN Institute on the Environment to UMN graduate students from any discipline. Boreas trains and develops the next generation of world changers to catalyze social and environmental solutions. Boreas offers co-curricular leadership development opportunities that build on the strengths of graduate education to create effective change agents.
